Try It Tuesday......Coppertone Sunless Tanning Gradual Tan Continuous Spray

I didn't choose food for once did I?

I thought I'd give my opinion on the Coppertone Sunless Tanning Gradual Tan Continuous Spray because it's the one that I chose to use in the beginning of the summer season. What caught my eye was the gradual tan part. Having fair skin, I don't go out in the sun much, but I also don't like looking like Casper. So each summer, I use a sunless tanning product on my legs. My arms tan pretty well without it. I don't like to be dark, so I try to match my legs to the light tan on my arms.

When I saw this product at my local Meijer, I liked how it professed to tan me gradually. I thought I'd get less streaks that way. I never used it 3 days in a row like the can recommends. Once or twice is sufficient. The price was also about the same as the others (just under $10), so I thought sure, why not try it.

Using the product is easy since it's a continuous spray. Or so I thought. I thought it would mean that I didn't have to rub it in. Without rubbing it in, I look like I have brown zebra stripes. When using this product, I have to rub it in. Maybe I'm not skilled enough to just spray it on. I didn't think I'd have to be a pro to use a spray.

Some good points about this product is that it dries quickly and after I've rubbed it in, it leaves an even tone that is natural looking. No orange tinge at all.

Now for the downside....and this is a HUGE downside people!

IT STINKS!

Yes, it stinks to high heaven!

Coppertone says this spray has a 'fresh fragrance'. Ha! It smells more like one of these:

I'm not kidding. My family thinks it totally smells like Pepe' Le Pew.

Now, the good news is that I don't smell like a skunk after it dries. The bad news, is that my bathroom does. For about an hour. -sigh-

So there you have it. The product works. It has it's high points, but it really has it's low points. The stinkage turns me off, so I'll be choosing a different spray from now on. Ugh.

Do you use sunless tanning spray or lotion? Which one or ones do you find to be the best? I could use some opinions on this one.

I tried the Jergens product that's similar to this last year. It worked fairly well, but it was a lotion that had to be rubbed in, and then you were supposed to walk around naked, I guess, while the product dried so it didn't stain your clothes. (I always just got dressed as usual). It kind of smelled too - not really, really bad, but it had a distinct and not completely pleasant odor. And it stuck around; it wasn't temporary.

Thanks for the review, though!

I use the Jergens on my legs. They just don't tan like the rest of me. I really like it- put it on right after the shower and let it dry before putting on clothes. I don't mind the scent & the scent doesn't stay with you forever. No streaks. i like it better than others I've tried.

BTW- Is Jillian home yet? I just saw there was a big quake south of LA. Fun for her if she got to experience that ! :)

Guess I'll have to try the Jergens next.

Nope, Jillian is still out in CA. I talked to my sister about a half hour ago about the earthquake. She said that she and Jillian didn't feel it because they were driving. I guess you don't feel as much when driving for some reason? My brother-in-law did feel it though. He also said that the curtains and blinds shook, but it wasn't a big deal. They are in San Diego and the quake was closer to LA, so I guess that's why they didn't feel much. Funny tho- Jillian and I talked about the possibility of a quake happening when she was out there. Haha.

Yeah I use the Jergens stuff too. I found it at the discount surplus grocery store. The way I figure it I got two bottles for roughly 10 cents a piece. I tell you guys, you all have to come see me so we can go to this surplus store. It is incredible. Any, that is what I recommend and I only use it on my legs. It has a slight self-tanner smell but if I don't sweat too much it goes away and I don't know why Beth is walking around naked. I think it comes from my best friend growing up. Sorry.

Why can't we have surplus stores like THAT here?! I think the Jergen's stuff is around $7 or more at Meijer. Big diff in price.

Why are we both up at almost 2 am Andrea?! haha

Um, yeah. I was up after 2am last night too due to the craziness happening on my blog. Anyway- I jsut bought the Jergen's one last week after I saw how great Nikki's legs looked. I haven't actually used it, because I have the same issues as Beth (once that orange stuff gets on your clothes....) but like I said, it looks good on Nikki. Try it! :)
