Got Milk?

When I saw this in my local newspaper, I thought it must be a joke at first, but it's not. Here is what I read....

PETA asks Ben & Jerry's to use breast milk
1 day ago

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — Ice cream made from breast milk? That's what the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants Ben & Jerry's Homemade Ice Cream to consider making.

The Virginia-based nonprofit group sent a letter to company co-founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield on Tuesday asking them to use human breast milk instead of cow's milk in their products.

PETA said the health of consumers and cows would benefit from the switch.

Ben & Jerry's spokesman Rob Michalak said the company applauds PETA's creative approach to bring attention to an issue, but believes that a mother's milk is best used by a child.

If you want to read the actual short letter that PETA sent to Ben & Jerry's, then look here....PETA

So, let me get this straight....to make it easier on the poor cows and because cow's milk is meant for baby cows, Ben & Jerry's should switch to human breast milk even though human breast milk is meant for human babies. Hmm....Doesn't make much sense to me. I think if I were to give away my breast milk, it would be better to donate it to a child who could benefit from it for health reasons. Read this article about how donating breast milk can save an infants life at BreastFeeding.com.

You can either agree with me or disagree on this mommy milk-ice cream subject. I don't expect everyone to see my views on everything I blog about, but this issue just seems silly to me.

You are so right. Give me a break! PETA folks can get a little wacky. This is ridiculous.
Can you imagine how much that ice cream would cost- paying women to be pumped all day- and finding women willing to hook themselves up to a machine all day like a dairy cow!
And ewww... I'd be grossed out by ice cream made by someone's breast milk.

I knew you would see this post right away Nikki....you blog addict you. lol

Oh, and not to mention the fact how sore those ladies poor boobies would be from pumping milk all day. Ouch. It's just silly.

EWWW Gross. I think if they switch to breast milk they will be out of business in no time. and the price of that already expensive ice cream will be even more expensive. After all, that is one of the reasons animals were put here on the earth. I think I will get myself a bowl of cow's milk ice cream right now.

The way I see it is...
How would those poor cows feel if we didn't milk them for human's use? Are they saying THAT would be beneficial to their health?

Nancy! Howdy! I guess this means you are ok with us all looking at your fabulous blog?

Yes, I was thinking about what it would do to cows if we didn't use them for their milk. They would be marched right to the slaughter house I bet. Just what PETA would want to avoid.

Plus, isn't human mother's milk different than a cows in the fat dept? Wouldn't they need more fat to make ice cream? And they would have to worry about all the diseases that can be passed thru human milk.

Just a silly thing for PETA to be worried about. Ugh.

Okay, I am see a whole new stay at home mom/work from home industry. Would the women have to take hormones. What is an average gallon amount you can get in a day from a women? I think cows give 40 gallons a day. How much would they have to pay a women for her breast milk? And how many women would get pregant every couple of years to keep milk production up? Wow I am seeing a whole lot of logistical problems here. Nice try PETA. Did they offer any of their milk for ice cream production? Isn't soy milk or rice milk much cheaper and more efficent to use?

I heard about this. Ridiculous. The fundamental problem with PETA is that they think humans and animals are equals. They just aren't. I always want to say to them, "Worry about the PEOPLE who are being treated poorly in this world and THEN worry about chickens and cows."
