Compassionate Service!

My brother is an art teacher in the Upper Pennisula of Michigan.  He and his students have designed ceramics to sell at the local mall in Marquette.  They have already sold over $300 worth and plan to keep selling.  After which, they will donate their earnings to Haiti relief.

I'm kind of proud of my big brother!  He gets his compassion from my Mom (I miss you Mom!)

NEGAUNEE -- A group of students are trading their talents for any relief they can get for victims of the Haiti earthquake.



By using their own art skills and what they are learning in class, Negaunee High School art students, under the direction of their teacher, Gene Bertram, are selling the ceramics they are making in class to collect donations.



All of the money collected will be donated to the Red Cross and will go exclusively to providing relief to those in Haiti.



As of Saturday morning, after two days of selling, the group had raised more than $300.



"The generosity of Marquette County is just, they're there and they're here for us, here for the people of Haiti, too, so we're kind of proud of that," said Bertram.



Bertram said they plan on keeping this fund-raiser going as long as they can.



If you'd like to pick up any pottery and make a donation, the students are usually in the Westwood Mall on Fridays and Saturdays, or you can stop by Negaunee High School during the school day as well.

Baaad Mama....again!

Dumb....da dumb dumb. I did it again!

This time I receive my own, "Bad Mom" award because I have a big mouth.

Our small, irritating dog, Minnie likes to yipe at everyone and everything. It's annoying so I find myself yelling at her all the time. Not at the top of my lungs or anything, but nevertheless I scold her frequently.

So of course one day I was annoyed at her barking and told her to, "shut up". So now...every time Minnie barks too much, guess who tells her to, "shut up"?? Yep. 23 month old Ava.

I'm such a baaaaad Mama. -sigh-

I guess I had casually heard of these mini laughables, but never took the time to check them out. I saw one at Mormon Mommy Wars (see my blog roll) and laughed my patootie off. I really needed that laugh today, and thought maybe you might too. They star Jenny McCarthy, Leah Remini and Chelsea Handler. All funny chicks! Today has special meaning to me. Both my Mother & Grandma (we called her Nannie) had Alzheimer's Disease. Nannie died in 1984. My Mom died in 2002, but it feels like yesterday. Since today is World Alzheimer's Day, I want to raise awareness about this disease. It's too painful to talk about my own experiences with both my Mother and Nannie being taken away from us by this long suffering disease. I will say that it was the longest goodbye. My Mother died a little bit each day because of this illness. For those who say it's not hereditary, I say, "Ohhh yes it is". How often would a mother and a daughter both lose their lives to the same disease if it weren't hereditary? It's about time someone found a cure. Visit the site above and raise your own awareness.
